Been A While

So I woke up this morning and realized I haven't posted since April. I had been terribly busy with end of semester activities (applying for graduation, final exams, projects, papers, etc.) that I simply didn't have time to post! Be on the lookout for a better post than this quick update soon!

Springtime Waterscapes

My all time favorite type of photography is waterscapes. Just like a landscape is a visualization of land, waterscapes are a visualization of any body of water. These can include rivers, streams, lakes, or even oceans.

Spring time is one of the best times to view streams and rivers. The melting snow and regular rain raises the water levels, creating some good waterfalls and churning trickles.

One location near me that requires a good amount of water to occur is Blackledge Falls in Glastonbury, CT. Located right off CT-95 approximately 3.5 miles from the intersection of CT-85, Blackledge Falls preserve is home to a small hiking trail that leads you to the waterfall. In spring the melting snow brings a good downpour from the falls.

Another favorite location of mine is Cotton Hollow Nature Preserve in Glastonbury, CT. Cotton Hollow is located off Hopewell Road in Glastonbury. The preserve is an 80-acre section of land maintained by the Town of Glastonbury and is home to the Roaring Brook and the foundations of mills and factories that used to inhabit the area. It is a prime example of how nature can take over after humans have left their remains.

And of course I need to find some way to add abandonments into the mix. The Seaside Regional Center in Waterford, CT is located on a pristine strip of land right on Long Island Sound. Formally a tuberculosis hospital, Seaside now sits abandoned, waiting for whatever the town may decide to do with it, On the property is a small beach not many people know about, and it offers access to some great sunsets and a great view of the Sound.

College Squirrel

So on my way back from my first class this morning, I was walking through the overpass on way back to my dorm. While walking and only thinking about more sleep, a squirrel began running towards me. There was another student a few feet in front of me, and the squirrel seemed confused as to where to go, as there is a 13 foot drop on either side of the ledge. The squirrel stopped and looked at both myself and the other student. The squirrel once again began hopping towards me, inching closer and closer. Arriving right next to me, he stopped and stared at me, while I stared back. He finally hopped off down the stairs.

Needless to say, it's always interesting to have an encounter with the squirrels on campus. They're so used to people that they aren't terribly frightened when someone approaches.

First Post

Welcome to Broken Photography!

I'm currently a college student interested in computers, cars, and photography. I photograph a large variety of items, and this blog is meant to be a highlight of my favorite captures and locations.

First Photographs

Urban Exploration is one of my favorite types of photography. It's always been an interest of mine to see human creations just left to survive in nature.

This particular string of photos are from an abandoned school in Central Massachusetts. At the time of my visit, it was shut tight. I'm an ethical explorer, and don't break into abandonment.

Unfortunately when I shot these photos, I was wearing sunglasses when holding my camera to my face. I wish I had used a polarization filter, because looking through my sunglasses looked really cool. To try and retain that look, I tweaked the colors of the photographs.

Enjoy and I hope you look forward to future posts!
